We have decided to offer our outstanding registered Percheron mare for sale because we simply have to many horses at this time. We are cutting back a little bit on our herd, as we now have several daughter’s of our stallion that are breeding age and we simply don’t have time for this many horses, so it is with a heavy, sad heart that we have come to the decision to discontinue breeding Spanish Norman horses.
“Ginny” has produced superior offspring of size, beauty, excellent movement and loving character that are suitable for a variety of activities as a good sports horse. They have great dressage movement and size, so they would be great for a large rider also.
She is offered as a 3 in one package deal with the foal she is carrying now and a breeding back to our stallion. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants a high quality mare to start a breeding program. She is also trained to ride, but has not been ridden the last 2 years as she has been used a broodmare only.
She is an extremely well bred, steel grey Percheron mare. The first non-andalusian horse bought by me in 25 years. She stands 18.1 hands, has very correct conformation and an impressive show record under saddle, in harness and halter.
I had been looking for the perfect Percheron mare to breed to Urgel for more than 3 years. I was looking for a black, with long legs and sport horse type build, not the old style heavy draft horse type. When I first saw "Ginny", I noticed her puppy dog sweet demeanor toward her owner. I loved her conformation. After we looked at all the other horses, I asked to see Ginny out one more time. When I saw her movement which has a lot of extension in the trot, I asked to see her under saddle. She was so much fun to ride and handled so well it was hard to believe she is so tall... much taller than I wanted but so proportionate. She was just what I wanted for a cross to Urgel.
The goal is to combine the gene pool of the beautiful and even-tempered Andalusian with the size, calmness, and strength of the Percheron to create a partner that is safe for anyone to handle and less expensive than a purebred Andalusian, yet capable to excel in any discipline desired -- from trailriding to dressage. Crossbreeding with Percherons has been popular for breeds such as Thouroughbreds to create modern, calm, large sport horses. Crossed with the Andalusian, they create an old breed registered as Spanish Normans as well as half-Andalusians.
Ginny will be the only Percheron because I plan to only produce a few high quality, less expensive horses. My first true love is with the pure Spanish Horse -- past, present, and future.
